Intro: Welcome to Diaries of a D. Girl

Welcome to Diaries of a D Girl

I have this small mole on the inside of my left hand. That dot represents the size of Detroit on the Michigan map. When you really look at it, you start to understand the phrase, “the city is so small.” It takes “it’s a small world” to another level.

Being from a known-but-overlooked city has its ups and downs. We’re home to some of the most beautiful women, the best-dressed hustlers, and the most talented artists. We birthed music and the automotive game. Our sports teams are resilient, our food is top tier, and our people—well, we’ve got the hospitality of the South with the glitz of the North.

In small towns, everybody knows everybody. In major cities, you can spend a whole day seeing nothing but new faces. But Detroit is different—it’s a magical place where everyone’s a celebrity in their own right and connections run deep. We are The Motor City. The 313. The Dirty D. Where things get cold, but the people stay warm.

I’m just a girl from a big, yet small city. As I’ve grown and gotten to know myself, I’ve realized that life—especially my love life—can move fast, and sometimes it feels like a sitcom. The irony of how things play out is almost comical. Now, as I approach my thirties and reflect on my twenties, I invite you to laugh, learn, and live with me.

This blog is my open diary—equal parts comedy, confession, and coming-of-age. Think Moesha meets Sex and the City, but with more parking lot talks, Coney Island runs, and complicated text threads.

Here, I write about the lessons, the losses, and the late-night thoughts that shape me. Some entries are messy. Some are poetic. All of them are real.

So whether you’re a girl from the D, or just a soul who’s been through a few plot twists of your own—welcome. Grab a glass of wine (or a Faygo if you’re keeping it classic), and let’s figure it out together.

xo,
Ya girl, D.
